Ask yourself if your kitchen functions well with the way you live. Cabinets with your most frequently used items should be located and arranged most conveniently, with items you don’t use everyday stored out of the way. The design and style of your cabinetry should also fit your own personal taste.

Properties of Maple and Stains
Maple is a smooth and closed grained wood that is typically off-white in color with variations of light cherry to deep camel. Maple will turn amber as it ages due to a naturally occurring resin within the wood. All stains and finishes are subject to change overtime as the wood mellows and is exposed to light and other elements. Small mineral streaks are characteristic of this wood, forming as the trees absorb minerals from the earth. This gives cabinet faces a distinct and original appearance. All doors, drawer faces, and face frames are finished according to our 14-step finishing process. All unstained or unpainted maple within the cabinet and drawer boxes is coated with a clear finish to protect the wood from extreme temperatures and excess moisture.
Full Overlay Door Styles
All of our cabinet styles are full overlay cabinets. For full overlay, the door covers the face frame with 1/4" of space on the edge of both sides of the cabinet frame. This means that there is almost no face frame showing around the door and drawer fronts. This style overlay gives the kitchen or bath a clean and seamless design.
Butt Designed Door Fronts
Our double door cabinet boxes have butt doors. Butt cabinet doors close to rest directly against each other, effectively 'butting' together. This type of cabinet closure affords more convenient storage because the cabinet box does not have a center stile between the doors.
Mortise and Tenon Joint Construction
Simple and strong, the mortise and tenon joint has been used by wood craftsmen for centuries to join pieces of wood. This type of joint is typically used with wood pieces that are joined at a 90-degree angle. One end of the two pieces (the tenon) is inserted into a hole (the mortise) in the other piece.
Mitered Joint Construction
Our doors utilize a mitered joint construction for all door frames. The mitered joint is a proper cut angle that is determined so the separate pieces join to meet flush. This joint typically takes place at a 45-degree angle, which makes wide or narrow angle joint construction both easier to implement and stronger.
Five-Piece Door Fronts
The door front construction is a male and female butt system, making a tighter-fitting door that allows a more even stain than using a metal clip or fastener in the door face.
Metal Clip Construction
Our cabinets utilize a metal clip fastener for all box construction. The metal clip, as opposed to nails, screws, and clamps, allows the cabinet boxes to be assembled quickly without the use of numerous tools. The metal clip also provides a long term fastening method that will not breakdown over time such as glue. These clips can be easily removed to allow the cabinet boxes to be customized.
European Hinges
All of our cabinets also include the European Hinge. This hinge has a 35-mm diameter cup press. This cup design keeps the hinge from being reliant on screws as a primary fastener joining the hinge to the door.
Left or Right Single Door Option
All cabinet boxes are pre-fitted with a hanging rail on both the top and bottom of the box allowing the cabinet to be flipped either way. This means that all single boxes can be hung to open either left or right allowing complete customization.
Premium Box Construction
All Covered Bridge cabinet boxes are constructed with a face frame of solid wood that is 3/4" thick and 1-9/16" wide. The sides, back, top, and bottom of the cabinet box are constructed of premium plywood with maple veneer on each side creating a finished exterior and interior of the cabinet box. The back panel and the face frame each have two small grooves to allow for a better fit of each piece and more solid construction.
Solid Wood Drawer Boxes
The sides, back, and front of all drawer boxes are 3/4" solid wood with a clear coat sealer finish. The drawer bottoms are 1/2" plywood that is sealed on both sides to protect the wood from extreme temperature and moisture. This differs from most other drawer boxes that are typically constructed completely with plywood excepting the drawer face.
Standard Half Extension Base Shelving and Full Extension Wall Shelving
All base cabinet shelves are 3/4" thick and are half depth to allow for versatile storage. Wall cabinet shelves are also 3/4" thick with full depth shelving. All shelves are fully adjustable to allow complete storage customization.

7 Steps For Starting Your Kitchen Renovation- Demolition Time!
Before any remodeling project can begin, there is always going to be some demolition required. Depending on how far you are taking your kitchen renovation project, that could mean simply removing the countertops or stripping the room down to the bare studs. For many homeowners, the demolition can easily get out of hand when hammers and pry-bars are flying around. While it may be a good way to get our your aggression, it could result in more problems than you had before. Taking your time and actually disassembling the room versus demolishing it, is the smart way to go
Here are 7 basic steps to remodeling your kitchen:
1. Think Safety. If you are going to around any electrical outlets or plumbing, it is important to make sure that both are turned off. As we all know, accidentally hitting an electrical wire can prove painful, if not lethal. While hitting a water line may not be lethal, it can sure cause a lot of headaches and a big mess.
2. Protect The Items You Are Keeping. For example, if your floors are in good shape, and you plan to keep them, it is important to cover them. The last think you want to do, is damage something during demo or construction and increase your overall remodeling budget.
3. Remove all Fixtures. If you are planning to keep any of the lighting fixtures, knobs, faucets, etc.. it is important to remove them and put them in a safe place. That way, when you are wildly swinging that hammer, you damage any of the fixtures you were planning on keeping.
4. Save the Trim. In most cases, you can usually save and re-use the moldings and trim that you will find in the room. By removing them now, you will prevent any accidental chips or dings when removing the countertops and cabinets. Once you have the trim removed, start working on the countertops. Depending on the type of countertop material, it may be as simple as using a utility knife to cut the caulk or paint between the countertop and the backsplash and cabinets. For laminate or other artificial materials, you may also have to remove any screws that are holding the countertop to the cabinets.
5. Removing the Countertops. It is usually a good idea to have some extra hands to remove the countertops, but if you are trying to do it yourself, and it is a material like laminate, you can usually chop it into manageable pieces that you can haul out on your own.
6. Base Cabinets. Start by removing the drawers and any movable parts on your kitchen cabinets. Once you have that off, it is time to climb into the cabinets and remove any of the screws that are anchoring the cabinets to the walls. After the base cabinets are free from the walls, it is now time to separate them from each other. Most base cabinets will be secure with screws as well, so by removing those screws you will be able to separate and remove all of the base cabinets.
7. Taking Down the Wall Cabinets. When it comes to removing the wall cabinets it is a good idea to have an extra set of hands or a brace to support the cabinets. Unlike the base cabinets, this time start by removing any of the screws that connect the cabinets to each other. Once those are removed, you can start pulling out the screws that are holding each cabinet to the wall. By starting the wall cabinets with the screws that are connecting them to each other, you can safely remove each cabinet individually.
Once the kitchen cabinets are removed, it is either time to strip the drywall or plaster off, or start patching so that you install your new cabinets. By taking your time and not going with the sledge hammer approach to demolition, you can minimize the unnecessary damage and ensure that your project comes in under budget.
Buying Kitchen Cabinets At Home Improvement Stores
The number of cabinet names and styles at the Home Improvement Stores like Lowes and Home Depot can be overwhelming, and so can the number of options and upgrades. They do a very good job of distracting you from the two biggest factors when it comes to buying kitchen cabinets. Find out what they are and how to avoid the common mistakes that people make when shopping for kitchen cabinets.
IF you have ever strolled through the kitchen section at one of the big home improvement stores (like Lowes or Home Depot), you know how overwhelming the selection can be. They do a very good job of offering every door style, wood type, and finish imaginable. They also do a very good job of distracting you from the two biggest features that you should be focused on- price and quality of construction.
When making a large purchase like a kitchen, it is really easy for emotion and excitement to overshadow the total cost. It is really important to do some research before going into the store and have a budget in mind. Minor changes in the look of the cabinet can end up adding hundreds, if not thousands, to the cost of your kitchen. The same thing applies to unnecessary upgrades and accessories, which will quickly add up.
As a part-time contractor and rental property owner, I always tell people that I am talking to, to start their research on the internet.. The big stores will offer the name brand cabinets, but if you search online you will find that you can find similar, if not identical cabinets, for significantly less on-line. Have you ever noticed that the stores will usually price cabinets on a cost per square foot? This is done deliberately….. when you are emotionally attached to a particular style of cabinet, what is more likely to sway you from going over your budget- That upgrade is going to got you an additional $1.00 per square foot, or that upgrade is going cost you an additional $900? It is a great technique to distract you from the actual price you are paying and get you focused on the style and finish of the cabinets.
What you will also find is that the quality of the materials used will differ dramatically from cabinet to cabinet. As I mentioned before, the retail stores do a very good job of getting you caught up in the features and cabinet accessories of the cabinet face, but they often brush over the actual cabinet box construction? Ironically, most of the higher priced cabinets don’t actually use solid wood for the cabinet box. They may have a great looking cabinet door, but they are using particleboard or fiberboard for the construction of the cabinet box. The problem with both of these materials is that they are adversely affected by water and moisture…. What you will find on-line is that a lot of the lesser-known cabinetmakers actually use solid plywood, which creates a much stronger cabinet box. The other big factor in materials is how the cabinet is held together. Don’t be surprised to find out that some of the big name cabinet companies use staples or basic nails and glue to hold the cabinet together. The best joinery would have to be dovetail joints, but right behind that is the cam lock. The cam lock is used primarily on ready-to-assemble cabinets.
In doing some research on-line you will more than likely come across another common term in the cabinet industry- RTA, or Ready-To-Assemble. Don’t be scared away from this type of cabinet. If you ever go into the big stores and see pre-assembled or stock cabinets, they are actually RTA cabinets that have been assembled for your convenience (and they are significantly more expensive). There are three categories that separate RTA Cabinets from their competition-
1) Construction- Not all RTA cabinets are the same, but most of them use solid plywood for the cabinet box, solid wood for the face frames and doors, and they have an interlocking cam lock assembly that is a stronger bond than staples, nails, or wooden dowels
2) Price- if you find the companies that are importing them directly, the saving can be as high as 40-50% versus the name brand cabinets
3) Assembly- they are so easy to assemble that you can actually eliminate the added expense of hiring someone to assemble and install them
With all the advantages of RTA Cabinets, there are some inferior products on the market that you should steer clear of, but they are definitely worth doing some research on. Typically when RTA cabinets or knockdown cabinets are mentioned, people automatically think of Ikea products. Today’s ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets are far superior than what is sold at Ikea.
So before you go running to your local big box supply store, take the time to do some research on-line. At the very least you will be a more educated customer and you can avoid the mistake of exceeding your budget for your kitchen.
